Accurate focus, fast and sharp
I got this lens to replace my 50 mm f/1.8, because the 50/1.8 won't autofocus on my D3000 (no screw drive.)

Both are very sharp lenses, but in the time I've used my 35mm so far, I find it to be sharper wide open than the 50/1.8. Chromatic aberration is a minor issue and is only bothersome if you're pixel-peeping. It's acceptably sharp wide open; much better than the 50/1.8 wide open. By f/2.8, it's at its sharpest IMHO.

It's a much better focal length for spontaneous and close-range portraits; I found the 50/1.8 to be too narrow a field for taking pictures, say, at a restaurant with friends.

Build quality is comsumer-grade. Nothing to jump and holler about, but it does the job. You're paying for the optical performance more than you are the construction and material quality.

Great default lens
I love the clarity and quickness of the lens. the only problem i'm having so far is just the focus. AF doesn't work that great and manual focus seems hard to determine in the view finder.

Nikon's best value fast prime lens
Decided to add another lens to my hobby. This was my first fast/prime lens. For a Nikon DX user, I highly recommend this lens. Its compact, light, fast, sharp, and more importantly affordable. Excellent in low light use. Would make for a good portrait lens as well. The clarity and sharpness of this lens is very noticeable compared to other Nikon kit lens with slower apertures.

just got mine from the mailbox! awesome!
compared this to my other 50mm f1.8D AF lens...what i can only say is...AWESOME!!!!! better than the 50mm 1.8D AF because now this is desiged for my D90 and D300s! focal point is true 35mm not like the 50mm...its a 75mm on a DX platform!so everything is so close!that sometimes sucks when using it indoors..im so glad i decided to get this lens..now my 50mm af lens is for sale at 50% off! only 3weeks of usage!

Pound for pound this is the best lens on the market!
I bought this lens about 6 months ago from best buy after reading reviews on amazon. Paid $199 and walked out with the last copy in the store (4 other area stores were out of stock). This thing is tick tack sharp and great in low and even near dark conditions. I hate shooting with flash on so this lens works perfectly for me. Auto focus is near perfect (on my D60) and pretty fast. With my camera set to continuous shooting mode, I rarely miss a good shot when this baby is attached to the D60. The only 'con' which isn't much of one (i have to find something bad to say to even out my review) is you have to be willing to move your feet to get closer to your subject which may be an issue if you love to shoot your subject unaware (like family members - I hate the artificial pose complete with the cheesy smiles). Not a problem since I ask them to carry on as if I'm not in the room (although you won't have much luck with an active toddler - once smeared my lens with little finger prints when I got too close for comfort). Either way, this lens is near dirt cheap for the quality of product you are playing with. Nikon hit a home run with this little wizard. Get one asap and you won't put your camera down.
