Great for 35mm Slide Preservation
I bought this scanner from Amazon exactly one year ago this month when it was only $159.99 so I suppose that all these excellent reviews have pumped up the price. My sole purpose for this scanner was to scan thousands of 35mm slides from the last 30-something years and this scanner has done the job well. Now I can view my new digitized collection and make wonderful PowerPoint presentations. This is a very good scanner if you're looking for a way to preserve your 35mm slides. Highly recommend... even at a higher price.

Canoscan
The only dissapointment is that there is dirt on the inside of the glass which causes a nasty speck on my photos.

Only if you have 178.00 to throw away!
Interesting product. You would be wiser to lay your slides on whatever scanner you own and scan them in. This item is described as able to digitally convert your slides or neg film into various file types. Just an overpriced scanner. Software is an adobe knock off that doesn't work well with Win 7.

They make little holders that magnify the light through slides or film, you just set it on your existing scanner and scan. Those do a better job than this one did. Waste of money.

Works great with a Mac
I bought this scanner to replace a Microtek scanner at work that was only a few years old. And sadly, the only reason the Microtek needed to be replaced was because when we updated our OS the driver would no longer work. Microtek has not been keeping up with updating their drivers for current Mac OS (just a note for any Mac users out there- stay away from Microtek!) After doing considerable research I selected this scanner even though I was prepared to spend more. I have been very pleased with it so far and we do a lot of high resolution scanning where quality is important. It was easy to hook up and we haven't experienced any issues. If there is a negative it would be that it is larger than some of the other scanners I've had over the years.

pros: fast scan, no startup time, great quality, pretty cool software
cons: largest size 8.5 x 14...need to expand to 11x17, loud scanning
